WIU QC Psychology Club NAMIWalk Fundraiser By: Stephanie Hoover

14379969_1103579593058238_8705900420576321834_oThe Psychology Club would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped in raising funds and awareness for mental health issues and awareness from the spare change you may have donated to the big bills you were able to invest; every bit added up to our grand total of raising $628.50. This greatly surpassed our goal and we are so grateful to our friends, faculty, coworkers, and family who helped us achieve this goal. Not only did these people, you all, give money and/or volunteer time to either help raise funds or join us in the walk, but many of these people, you wonderful people, shared their/your own personal stories whether it was directly the person speaking with us about their own struggle or the struggle of a loved one who suffered from a mental health issue.

Mental health still seems to be a taboo topic which can keep people from either acknowledging there is a problem or even knowing that their problem is a mental health issue. I ask of anyone and everyone reading this to please continue to share your stories and help in changing the topic of mental health issues into a topical norm instead of it remaining as taboo. As best as I can remember the saying -or something close to it, everyone is fighting a battle, but you don’t have to fight it alone. Seeking help does not mean you’re weak, it means you’re strong enough to do what needs to be done in order to better your and other’s lives. Thank you again for everything everyone has done. We hope to participate in this event next year and hope to see you there as well!
