WIU-QC uTech Technical Assistant Positions

Two positions available!

  • Hourly Rate: $9.50/hr
  • 10-20 hrs/week
    • Min 10hrs availability 7:30am-8:30pm Mon-Sat
  • Some Saturday shifts expected
  • Must be available 9/10/18-12/14/18, those interested are expected to be available for Spring 2019 semester as well

Duties & Qualifications:

  • Report to assigned supervisor. In the supervisor’s absence, report to the designated secondary supervisor. During breaks, an alternate supervisor may be assigned for special projects. The assigned supervisor will address all attendance issues and maintains all student personnel files.
  • Follow instructions as assigned. Work may include, but is not limited to: documentation and training, repairing or replacing hardware, installing and upgrading software, monitoring logs, pick-up and delivery of materials, assist with property accounting, and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure cleanliness of workspace when moving or installing equipment. May be required to work with cleaning solvents and alcohol.
  • Must maintain excellent attendance record.
  • Must maintain tools and supplies as directed by the assigned supervisor.
  • Report all exceptions to assigned work schedule to the assigned supervisor.
  • Work as part of a team handling emergencies on campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Above average troubleshooting skills in a specialized area of need to be determined by supervisor(s).
  • Knowledge of Windows 7/8/10, Unix/ECom and/or Macintosh OS X operating systems, Windows/Mac Servers and Active Directory (to be determined by supervisor(s).
  • Familiarity with campus, computing labs and electronic classrooms.
  • Familiarity with University policies (e.g., Appropriate Use Policy).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, etc.), Visio, and Google Apps for Education.
  • Knowledge of laser printer maintenance helpful.
  • Knowledge of flatbed scanners, OCR and photo scanning software.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and telephone skills.
  • Patience and maturity.
  • Proficient with Internet and e-mail utilities (Gmail).
  • Proven reliability. Good attendance record.
  • At least one semester working in the labs is preferred.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs. Must be capable of performing maintenance that may require bending, lying on the ground, crawling under desks, and/or climbing a ladder to access ceiling mounted equipment.
