Hey Boos! Hope you all didn’t get too spooked this Halloween! It is officially the MOST wonderful time of the year. Time to take down those tacky Halloween decorations and throw some fall decor up! I don’t know what I am more excited for: All of the incredible art events in the QC this month or the fact that I never have to see my roommate dressed up as a minion again!
You know,
I find it really on-brand for me to be obsessed with a holiday that focuses on what’s really important to all of us…F O O D. I am ready to throw on my favorite pair of elastic pants (I did not come here to be judged) and eat my weight in Thanksgiving goodies. But before you can enjoy the food coma you’re about to eat yourself into, we’ve got some art to see! That’s RIGHT my little turkeys, it’s time to check out all of the must see art events for November!
Basic Painting Class:
Who: Bereskin Art Gallery
Where: 2967 State Street Bettendorf, Iowa
When: November 5, 6, 7, 8 (3:00 – 5:30 p.m.)
Sign up: http://www.bereskinartgallery.com, or come down to the gallery and sign up in person!
There’s NOTHING basic about learning how to paint. This high school and adult class is perfect for the beginning artist. The instructor of this class breaks down painting into three easy steps so you literally can’t mess this up, people! This is your chance to become the next Bob Ross! SO GET OUT THERE AND SIGN UP! I AM ROOTING FOR YOU!
Annie:
Who: Circa ‘21 Dinner Playhouse
Where: 1828 3rd Avenue, Box 3784 Rock Island, Illinois
When: November 7-11, 14, 16-18, 21, 24, 25, 28, 30
Tickets: www.circa21.com
The sun WILL come out tomorrow, you feel? You aren’t going to want to miss this incredible show when it comes to the QC! For less than $40 you can have a great dinner and see an amazing show. We all know the movie and the songs, but now we have the chance to see the live show! I only have two questions: Is Jamie Foxx going to play Daddy Warbucks again and can I get an autograph from the dog that is going to play Sandy? These burning questions are going to keep me on the edge of my seat until showtime!
On an unrelated note, does anyone know what Circa 21’s policy is on guests singing from the audience loudly and off pitch? Because it’s hard out here for a tone deaf music lover.
Festival of Trees:
Who: Downtown Davenport Partnership
Where: 331 W 3rd St Davenport, Iowa
When: November 17 (10:00 a.m.)
It’s time to live your holiday TRUTH. Bundle up, my little gourds (dibs on possible future band name: “my little gourds”) because this is the largest helium-balloon parade in the Midwest! I’m talking live marching bands, large character balloons towering over 3 stories tall, clowns, floats, and more. If you’re one of those people that can’t just wait for December to start celebrating Christmas (cc: my aunt), then this event is perfect for you! After the parade, stop by the River Center to see the festival of trees! Personally, I am ready to blend the two seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas seamlessly. Catch me on 3rd street drinking a Pumpkin Spice Latte and eating a whole turkey leg while I watch the Christmas decor fly by. See you there!
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert:
Who: Adler Theatre
Where: 136 E. Third Street • Davenport, Iowa
When: November 17 (2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.)
Tickets: qcso.org/events/
Let’s all get one thing straight here. We have been collectively waiting for our Hogwarts letters to arrive since 1997. This is OUR CHANCE. The QC Symphony is offering us a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience *arguably* the scariest Harry Potter movie live in concert! This concert features the movie in high-definition while a live orchestra performs the music. There are very few things that will get me to leave my apartment during an Iowa winter and this concert is one of them.
BONUS FACT! This movie has one of my all time favorite quotes! I have a degree in Fine Arts and Art History so you CAN trust me when I say that it is true poetry. Check it out:
Okay my little Cornucopias (that’s a stretch), we have reached the end of November! Let’s recap: you’ve got a class to become the next Bob Ross, a show where you get to hear incredible music AND see a live acting dog (who will most likely be a 10/10 good boy), a parade that literally blends two holidays together as if it were a professionally done ombre hair style, and a concert that is basically a full ride scholarship to Hogwarts. With these events, I am sure you will have plenty to tell your family about at Thanksgiving instead of talking about politics. Or maybe you’re like my friend Tom and look forward to stirring up some drama every Thanksgiving. Whatever floats your Mayflower!
I hope everyone has a great November! Stay artsy, my little pumpkins! Xoxo, SoGladHalloweenIsOverGirl
