Temporary Pass/Fail Policy

As the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented shift from traditional classroom to online-only instruction, the WIU Council on Admission, Graduation, and Academic Standards (CAGAS) and Faculty Senate recently voted to approve a revised temporary pass/fail policy for undergraduate students. The interim president signed the policy April 3.

Because of these extraordinary circumstances, the undergraduate Pass/Fail grading option has been modified for the Spring 2020 Semester for full semester and second eight-week courses. During the week after the end of the Spring 2020 semester (May 13 – May 20, 2020), students can select the Pass/Fail grading option for one or more of their Spring 2020 undergraduate courses. The Registrar will email students the formal process for requesting the Pass/Fail grading option once it is finalized.

Students who consider the Pass/Fail option MUST consult with their academic advisor prior to submitting their request to the Registrar.

Students should be aware that selecting the Pass/Fail grading option may negatively impact their ability to obtain professional credentials/licensure following graduation, or to be accepted into post-baccalaureate graduate or professional school programs, and may not meet degree program requirements and/or course prerequisites that specify a minimum letter grade.
